In 2014, Tennessee lead the nation in accidental shooting fatalities with 105. Since 2014, the news has not improved and Tennessee continues to experience a high rate of accidental gun shootings. In 2015, per the Safe Tennessee Project there were 51 accidental shootings including 13 fatalities. 24 of these incidents involved children. In 2016, there 84 accidental shootings with 15 fatalities. 32 of these incidents involved children.  While 2014 seems to be an outlier year, averaging more than one accidental shooting a week is still nothing to ignore. Most of these incidents are preventable through responsible storage and care of guns. Responsible maintenance and storage of guns is not only simply common sense, but failing to properly store or maintain a firearm, can lead to liability when accidents occur.
