There is a lot of misinformation and confusion about two aspects of automobile insurance policy—MedPay and Uninsured Motorist coverage. These areas of coverage are absolutely critical to the safety and wellbeing of your family.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage

First, uninsured motorist coverage protects you in an accident with a driver who does not have insurance. When someone without insurance hits you and you are injured, unless you have uninsured motorist coverage, you are very unlikely to receive compensation for medical bills, and you will receive none for lost wages or pain and suffering. Uninsured motorist coverage protects you and your family from those who fail to obey the law and have state-required automobile insurance. Also, it’s important to remember that YOUR insurance company can defend an uninsured motorist case against you. We get calls often, from people who have been in an automobile accident and were not at fault, but they did not have uninsured motorist coverage. As a result, they cannot get compensation for injuries, bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, or lost enjoyment of life, outside of suing the at-fault driver individually to collect a judgment.

MedPay Coverage

Second, MedPay coverage is an essential coverage. This coverage costs very little on a monthly premium. However, it can be used to pay hospital bills or other doctor bills. For example, if you have $5,000.00 in MedPay coverage, you can pay up to $5,000.00 using this coverage. Also, please know that by law an insurance company CANNOT raise your rates for using MedPay coverage.

So, please carry these coverages and be sure to know if you have these coverages on your policy. They can make a world of difference when car or truck accidents occur.
